Humans understand meaning by doing. In this space, we feel the softness of the fabric, the tension of movement, the presence of others, and how this space offers us a moment of reflection on where things come from, who makes them, and how we are all connected through what we touch and carry with us.
I was honored to present this performance at the opening of the “Made in China” exhibition @wereldmuseum.amsterdam . My thanks to everyone who made this possible; to all the performers, hidden within and around the crowd, Ruochen Wang, Richard van Alphen, Zdenka Fieggen, Puk van Keulen, Kiriko Mechanicus, Karen Tessel, Casper van de Kamp, Thomas de Jong, Josine Hoogenraad, Kexin Hong, Junhao Xiang, Chander Beerthuis, Patrick Dippell; and to Shannon Lee, the violinist @shannonleeviolin . Together, we brought our friends and the audience into a shared experience.
For a few minutes, makership is something we do together. This simple act of holding, lifting and passing becomes a gesture. It reflects the quiet, often invisible dedication at the hearts of all makers.
