DEC 5 — Tomoko Mukaiyama | Tropenmuseum, Amsterdam (2022)
For the annual DEC 5 concert at the Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam, Ting designed the set and scenography of an evening that brought together music, art, talks, and workshops under one roof. DEC 5 is a long-standing concert tradition initiated by Japanese-Dutch pianist and artist Tomoko Mukaiyama in 2015, conceived as a response to the societal debates surrounding the Dutch Sinterklaas celebration. Rather than staging a conventional concert, the evening was designed as an immersive, multifaceted gathering — one that invited audiences of all ages and backgrounds to explore new forms of togetherness. The scenography supported this vision by creating a spatial environment that could hold the full breadth of the programme, from critical dialogue to playful exchange, while reflecting the warmth and inclusivity at the heart of Tomoko's artistic practice.
